Purpose

This test is used to assess the mobility of the radiohumeral joints.

Technique

Patient is positioned in sitting.

Clinician stands in front of the patient and holds the patient’s extended elbows just proximal to the elbow joint.

Clinician’s index fingers palpate the patient’s radiohumeral joints.

Clinician uses a swooping motion to bring the patient’s arms into supination and extension.

Clinician expects to feel the radius approximate and then separate from the humerus.

Positive

Palpable difference in the movement of the radiohumeral movement on one side.

Interpretation

A positive test indicates a radiohumural joint movement dysfunction.
