Purpose

The purpose of the Golfer’s elbow test is to check for medial epicondylitis or medial epicondylalgia.

Technique

Patient is positioned in sitting.

Clinician uses one hand to palpate the medial epicondyle on the side being tested.

Clinician then uses his other hand to fully extend the elbow, asks the patient to make a fist, and then passively extends the wrist.

To further confirm the findings, the Clinician asks the patient to actively flex the wrist from the testing position.

Positive

Pain or reproduction of other symptoms in the area of the medial epicondyle.

Interpretation

A positive test indicates medial epicondylitis or medial epicondylalgia.
