Lumbar Quadrant Test

Purpose

To assess the lumbar spine facet joints.

Technique

Patient positioned in standing.

Clinician braces ilium opposite side being tested with one hand, while other hand grabs shoulder on testing side and brings the patient back into extension, ipsilateral sidebending, and ipsilateral rotation.

Positive

Pain or radiating symptoms on the side being testing.

Interpretation

There is facet joint dysfunction.
