Purpose

A muscle energy technique used to correct a nutated sacrum (L on L sacral torsion).

Technique

Patient is positioned in L sidelying with L trunk rotation.

Patient flexes the patient’s knees and hips to 90° and rests the patient’s knees in his groin.

Clinician’s cranial hand palpates the sacral sulcus.

Clinician uses his caudal hand to further flex the legs until he feels the motion barrier (the sacral sulcus coming up into the fingers of his cranial hand).

Clinician asks the patient to raise her legs up toward the ceiling and has the patient hold the position for 3-6 seconds.

Clinician then brings the patient further into flexion and has the patient repeat the movement.

This technique can also be used to treat a R on R sacral torsion by positioning the patient in R sidelying and R trunk rotation.
