Clinician abducts the patient’s legs.
Clinician places his forearm just above the superior surface of the medial malleoli in between the patient’s leg.
Clinician asks the patient to adduct her legs, while the Clinician provides resistance to adduction.
Modified Shotgun
Patient is positioned in hooklying with feet about 4 inches apart.
Clinician places his fist between the patient’s knees and asks the patient to squeeze her knees together.
Clinician then moves his hands to the lateral surfaces of the patient’s knees and asks her to abduct her knees. Clinician provides resistance to abduction.
Interpretation
Production of pain with either of these techniques indicates pubic symphysis dysfunction. These techniques can be used to help correct pubic symphysis malalignment.
