Painful Arc Test

Purpose

A test used to identify subacromial impingement.

Technique

Patient is positioned in sitting.

Clinical asks patient to abduct both arms through the full ROM and back down.

Positive

Pain between 60°-120° of abduction.

Interpretation

A positive test indicates subacromial impingement.
