Purpose

Used to assess the mobility of the SI joint.

Technique

Patient is positioned in prone.

Clinician stands on the opposite side of the SI joint being tested.

Clinician uses the ulnar side of his cranial hand to put pressure on the caudal side of the sacrum opposite the side that’s being tested.

Clinician also palpates the PSIS and sacral sulcus of the side being tested using his cranial hand.

Clinician’s caudal hand goes under the ASIS of the side being tested and does an oscillation or lifting motion.

Clinician notes the SI movement in his palpating fingers.

Clinician repeats the technique on the opposite side comparing mobility.
