Purpose

A provocational test for positional faults of the sacrum. Also a mobilization technique to treat a counternutated sacrum.

Technique

Patient is positioned in prone.

Clinician stands opposite the side being tested.

Clinician’s caudal hand palpates the PSIS then places his thumb just medial to the PSIS with his thumb pointing cranially.

Clinician places the ulnar side of his cranial hand on top of the thumb of his caudal hand.

Clinician then applies a PA force through his cranial hand.

Interpretation

If this technique produces pain, the sacrum is nutated.

If this technique relieves pain, the sacrum is counternutated.
