Tibia on Femur – Medial Glide
Posted on 20. Sep, 2010 by Don in Knee Mobilizations
Purpose
A mobilization technique performed for the conjunct rotational motion which occurs at the knee allowing for full flexion and extension ROM.
Technique
Patient is positioned in side lying close to the edge of the table with the leg being mobilized on top (For example, place the patient in L sidelying to mobilize the R knee).
A pillow is placed between the patient’s knees.
Clinician places the knee to be mobilized in open pack position (25° of flexion).
Clinician braces leg against his thigh.
Clinician’s cranial hand is just distal to the fibular head to avoid putting pressure on the common fibular (peroneal) nerve.
Clinician places his caudal hand just above the malleoli.
Clinical applies a little distraction, takes up the slack, and then performs a medial glide of the tibia on the femur.
