Tibia on Femur – Posterior Glide

Purpose
A mobilization technique used to improve knee flexion ROM.
Technique
Patient is in positioned sitting close to the edge of the table so her legs are off the treatment table.
A towel or pad is placed behind the popliteal region if the patient is unable to bend the knee.
Clinician braces leg to be mobilized against his thigh.
Clinician’s proximal hand is distal to the joint line with the ulnar side of his hand on the tibia.
Clinician places his distal hand just above the malleoli.
Clinical applies a little distraction then performs a posterior glide of the tibia on the femur.
